Basics of Fiber Arts (Grades 7-12) - with Ayla Gizlice

Campers will learn all about fabric and fiber arts. Throughout the week, campers will learn hand and machine sewing, embriodery, weaving, and dyeing fabric with natural materials. At the end of the week, campers will have several hand-made pieces and new skills to take home with them!

In this week-long camp, campers will work with experienced fabric & fiber artist to make patterns on fabric with cloth dyes.
The Art of Textiles: Weaving (Grades 7-12) - with BillyDee

In this class, campers will learn a bit about the history of textiles and learn to make their own simple looms! We will be working with recycled and repurposed materials to create woven artworks.We will also have an introduction to basic sewing and embroidery techniques. The week will culminate in the creation of a simple hand woven bag designed and decorated by each camper!
The Art of Textiles: Mixed Media (Grades 7-12) - with BillyDee

In this class, campers will learn a bit about the history of quilting and embroidery. We will also learn about contemporary artist such as Bisa Butler, Mickalene Thomas, and Paolo Arao who use textiles in their work in through practices of quilting, collage and embroidery. The class will culminate in a mixed-media self portrait inspired by these contemporary artist’s works.
